Magnetic spring pin! How to use the spring pin?
Release time:
2025-12
Secure the spring pins in the predetermined positions on the device or PCB board that requires connection.
Basic structure of a spring pin
Body: Typically made of metal, it provides mechanical support and fixation for the spring pin.
Spring: Located inside the main body, the spring expands and contracts when pressure is applied or released, enabling the contact point to flexibly make or break contact with the opposing contact point.
Tip: The tip is the front end of the spring pin, which makes direct contact with another contact point. It is typically made of hard alloy to ensure excellent conductivity and wear resistance.
Insulator: Used to electrically isolate the spring pin’s conductive parts, ensuring that only the tip of the pin is conductive and enhancing user safety.
Positioning and Fixation:
Secure the spring pins in the predetermined positions on the device or PCB board that requires connection. This is typically achieved through soldering, crimping, or screw fastening. Ensure that the position of the spring pins is precisely aligned with the corresponding contact points on the opposite side.
Touchpoint Design:
The mating contact point on the opposite side (such as a pad on another PCB or a dedicated contact disk) should be designed to match the tip shape of the spring pin, ensuring a stable electrical connection when pressed.
Pressure application:
When two components are brought close together and appropriate pressure is applied, the tip of the spring pin extends outward under the force of the spring, making tight contact with the opposing contact point and establishing an electrical conduction path.
Disconnect:
When the pressure is released, the spring’s restoring force returns the needle tip to its original position, breaking the connection with the opposing contact point and facilitating the removal or movement of the component.
Application Example
Wearable devices: In smartwatches or fitness trackers, spring pins are used as charging and data-transfer interfaces, enabling wear-free connections.
Mobile phone test fixture: In the mobile phone manufacturing process, spring-pin connectors are used in automated testing equipment to quickly and reliably connect to the phone’s test points.
Modular electronics: In products that require frequent plugging and unplugging or feature a modular design, spring pins offer a connection solution that is both reliable and durable.
